Born and raised in Madison, Minnesota on a farm, John was involved in raising corn, soybeans, and dairy cows with his dad.  Johns career in agriculture started early.  After high school, he attended Canby Tech College for Farm Equipment Mechanics graduating in 1969.  From 1969 to 1971 John served for the US Army in the Vietnam War.  After returning home, John returned to Canby to further his education, receiving a degree in Parts and Sales.

In 1971, John was recruited by Storden Farmers Grain Sales and Service to become their Parts Manager.  He was employed there until 1979 when he was promoted to a sales position for the same company.  He remained there through 1985-at which time John purchased the grocery store in Storden.  He owned and operated the grocery store from 1985-2006.

During John’s 15 years at Storden Farmers Grain Sales, he got to know the producers in the surrounding counties.  John’s strong background in agriculture made him a huge asset to the company and producers in the area.  Some farmers would use John’s expertise to assist them in selling their land.

Ever the entrepreneur, John set his sights on his next venture—AUCTIONEER.  He found local mentors in Fritz Tasler and Rich Reiner and eventually got an opportunity with Gravley Auction Service to begin implementing his skills.  In 1996, John’s auctioneer career gained momentum and this was the beginning of “The Rest of the Story”.

Croatt Auction Service started in 1996.  The company focuses on ‘household, antiques, and collectibles’ but also agricultural real estate remains at the forefront as well.
